THERAPY

You may be visiting this site trying to decide whether you want to talk with someone about feelings, thoughts or problems that cause distress in your life. Perhaps you are considering seeing a therapist, but aren't certain if talk therapy is right for you or how to find a capable and compatible therapist.

Finding the right person often seems like a daunting task. So how do you discover a safe place to talk about your unique needs?

There is no single or right answer to the question, but there are some basic guidelines that can be helpful. It is useful to find a therapist who is experienced and well trained in a theoretical approach, but flexible to your own needs.

More important than any theoretical approach is the quality of your relationship between you and your therapist. According to research, good therapeutic results come from a relationship of mutual trust and your commitment.

There are many reasons why people seek out talk therapy. In my experience, individuals often feel so alone and isolated with troubling issues that interfere with their life. Many times life can be so filled with pain that it is hard to believe that there can be relief with compassionate understanding. Sometimes it feels as though no one understands nor cares to listen. If this has been your experience, talk therapy can provide relief and resolution. In other words, you need to feel as comfortable with me or any other person you choose to accompany you on this journey to the heart of yourself.

The heart of therapy is a co-created experience where previously unrecognized thoughts and feelings begin to be experienced and shared. As relational beings, it is only through the context of being understood and cared for that we begin to know ourselves.

Therapy is a dialogue. It is not about a teaching session. As a therapist I help you discover the truths about yourself, your life, your feelings. It is through this facilitated experience that the conduit for hope, change and resolution can be created. With these thoughts in mind, I invite you to call and talk with me about how I can be of help to you.
